What the treatment is for and how it works

The procedure of acid peeling involves the application of a special solution containing various acids (such as mandelic, azelaic, ferulic, glycolic, salicylic, or trichloroacetic acid) to the skin. The acids work on the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) or even deeper – the basal membrane, helping to remove dead cells, stimulate skin renewal, and improve its texture and color. The procedure also allows to reduce and smooth out surface wrinkles, reduce pigmentation, shrink pore size, and improve the condition of the skin in cases of acne, post-acne, or scars.

How long ?

Total procedure time 45-60 minutes

Healing period?

Depending on the strength of the peeling and the condition of the patient’s skin, the peeling period is from 2 to 10 days

Result

The results of acid peeling can vary and depend on the individual characteristics of the patient. Usually, improvement in skin quality can be observed after the first procedure, but optimal results are achieved during several procedures over a period of 1-2 months. The skin becomes smoother, fresher, and more radiant, visible pigmentation spots, wrinkles, and enlarged pores are reduced. To maintain the results, it is recommended to perform planned procedures depending on the condition of the skin and individual patient needs.

Indications for the procedure

Acid peels are suitable for most skin types and have various indications. They are especially effective for problematic skin, such as acne, post-acne, and scars, but can also address issues of pigmentation, surface wrinkles, and skin texture. However, there are some contraindications for performing this procedure, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, open wounds or inflamed skin, and certain chronic conditions. Before performing a peel, it is always recommended to consult with a cosmetologist regarding the condition.

Care after treatment

After acid peeling, rehabilitation is necessary, and its duration depends on the type of peel performed. After superficial peels, the skin may be slightly red and peel for several days, while after deeper peels (such as retinol or trichloroacetic acid), rehabilitation takes about 7-10 days and can involve significant peeling and temporary acne breakouts. After the peeling procedure, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight, use SPF protection and moisturizers. It is also not recommended to use aggressive cosmetic products or perform other cosmetic procedures for several days after peeling.

What can be combined ?

1-2 weeks after acid peeling, it can be combined with other procedures to achieve deeper and longer-lasting results. For example, combining it with phototherapy or laser rejuvenation can enhance the effect and improve the quality of the skin. It is also possible to combine peels with plasma therapy, biorevitalization, or mesotherapy to enhance the effect.
